It is the banking division of the technology industry and the technology division of the banking industry. The mixture of both is exhilarating.

I would like to open a workspace where people can work with good coffee or have a workshop with a cozy sofa.

I am a Customer Service Expert for the UK & Ireland.

What do you love most about working here?

I love our family-orientated work environment, which is very different to working at other companies. For example, every other Friday we have breakfast together. Moreover with Friday Cocktails, Beer O’Clock, team-building events and other team events with the Berlin Office, there is always something to look forward to.

What makes the payment industry more exciting than you would expect?

I think when people think of the payment industry, they think of people in suits in a boring office. It's not quite like that here. I mean, you can wear a suit if you like - but you don't have to!

If you were a SumUp merchant, what would you sell?

I’d open a bakery and sell pastries. I love pastries, cakes, doughnuts and raw juices.

I head up the Front-end Team, where we develop the merchant-facing web applications as well as our company website.

People at SumUp are by and far its greatest asset. My colleagues are smart and driven, and aren't afraid to question their previous notions about how something is best done.

What defines a SumUper?

Definitely someone who looks at a problem holistically, and isn't afraid to think beyond the direct impact that a business or product decision has on their work. Especially as a developer you get a lot of autonomy, but it takes the right mindset to leverage that effectively and run with it.

What makes the payment industry more exciting than you would expect?

By working in the payments industry you end up with a ton of domain knowledge about how running a business works in countries all over the world. Plus there's money involved.

If you were a SumUp merchant, what would you sell?

I would target all the Americans in Berlin and sell them imported hot sauce, frozen taquitos, and Trader Joe's boxed mac 'n cheese.
